Day comes and go, mid autumn arrives in the early month of October. We are now spoilt for choice with commercialized mooncakes of many varieties.
Most mooncakes sucks anyway and lack realy quality in my opinion. Years ago, commercial bakers used to buy unprocess 'lin zhi' to make lotus paste. Now they buy processed one in bulk since its cheaper. On the contrary, the mooncakes prices has been soaring each year. A branded one cost maybe around RM15-20 each. But it doesn't mean it taste nicer, at least for me. Most restaurants nowadays make a good killing selling mooncakes, my collegue account for like 9 months of their profit. Guess so one box maybe amount to like RM 70 nowdays.
For the record, my family almost never buy mooncakes. If got people give, then we eat lor, if not never eat one. For me, the nicer mooncakes nowadays are probably the Teow Chew or Shanghai types, cause they will get spoilt faster if don't fast fast eat. Their ingredients are better too. For those who don't like the sweet taste of mooncake, what else can their eat? I guess there is some non-sweet version out there.
Anyway, I guess the true meaning of Mid Autumn should be '团圆' i.e giving family members a reason to return home to eat dinner together. This probably holds true for those who seldom have chance to eat together as a family. For others, who always have the chance maybe not so special after all.
So, enjoy your mid autumn then, after all how many ten years more can u do that really?

The price of mooncake is so hyped up these days. The ingredients are not expensive at all, rite?
