Recently, I missed my grandma's cooking. She ain't cooking no more due to health reasons. Now, my mom take over. However, the food just doesn't taste the same. I have to say my mom cooking failed. Maybe cause she seldom cook, never cook is more appropiate..hehe.
With the old generation retiring from cooking, a lot of old recipes are lost. I won't be able to taste those hakka dishes anymore. Home cook Yong Tau Fu no more, want to eat have to buy or eat outside. The taste is not same especially the stuffed brinjal, my favourite. The Hakka Char Chu Yuk is also lost, grandma hasn't make it like 8-10 years..lol. The Chu Kiok Zhou is also no more, the yummy half fat half pork meat.
With some of the new generation like me, lazy to learn, perhaps it won't long before we settle for someting that is just not authentic and as good as the old days. Even in KL, when you eat outside, most of the food, is cooked by foreigners or are prepared earlier beforehand. Such is the downgrading of the food we eat now. The ambience and envrionment might be nicer, more posh, however the food taste just not as good as last time. Some youngsters may think the food still taste really good now, but they will never know how much better it taste i the old days. My mom, a coffee drinker, always wondered if they use DNA modified ingredients to prepare food.
Perhaps this is the price to pay for modernization, society seems to improve in some way, but in other matters, it is slowly deteriorating. Maybe eating a pill for dinner isn't such a far fetch idea after all. I guess no one will need to complain who to do the dishes in the future...haha.
