"Why they call you, Yong ar?" an old friend ask me not so long ago when I hooked her up with some old schoolmates. I just smiled at her caused I don't really have the answer. Maybe they're are forgetful or lazy to say the extra sylabble.
Recently, a friend asked me my full name and how should she address me. I told her if you got heart to remember call me 'Kok Wei' if not, just Yong. To which she replied, 'ok if I got heart, I'll call you, 'Wei Wei'. And I laughed, just don't called it like you are saying'Hello'..pratice makes perfect by the way.
Most friends tend just to call me by my surname 'Yong'. Some of my collegues just like to call me 'Tai Kor Yong' jokingly of course. Really close friends or family related will just called me 'Wei'. So again unless you can get the prounounciation right, better don't call me by that..haha.
And on certain occasions, especially when you are shouting, like my mom, she'll called meby my full name.
However, it gets a bit annoying when people call me by my nickname i.e the nick I used online 'anechoic'. Some of them even changed it to 'anene' or 'ane' (nickname for Indians). :S Although it does sound funny, but when u called it out loud in public, it really does feel awkward. Please refrain from doing so in the future...
Anyway, there is this saying, that a rose sound as sweet by any name. As for me, I will tryhard to call people by their first name, cause I think it makes people feel better..hehe. I guess I should still be grateful people don't call me, 'eh, oi, woi'...

I used to call you yong while nick called address you as 'kok wei' but I don't know how I ended up confusing u & kok wai ... hehe
hahaha..no need to take it so serious lar :P
OK lor change to Kok Wei lor :p
i would prefer most to call me by my surname as they can't pronounce my name properly. i have heard someone said quite an interesting statement which still rings in my head and also the main reason as to why i would prefer to be known by my surname (for those who can't pronounce my name properly), "Your name is given by your parents, so if they can't pronounce it properly, its like an insult to your parents.". As usual, i can't recall where i got that from but hey that is just me and i have almost completely stopped "name-calling" not long after getting to know that.
