Yunnan Travel Part 1: Eternal Spring City Attractions

4 flights, over 1500km in 3 bus, 5 different hotels and 5 tour guides. That's how the tour was done for 8 days in the high plains of Yunnan, China. Let the tour be retold.

View of Kunming city

1st day, woke up at 6am and arrive at the airport at 7.30am. Flight is 9.30am. Reach Kunming (Kunming is known as the 'City of Eternal Spring') at about 12.30pm. Temperature is around 15-16°C and the city is about 1800m above sea level. Took about 2 hours bus ride to the first scenic spot called Ancient Alu Cave at Jiu Xiang town. It has area of 1.6 kilometres square. We spent about 2 hours walking over 300 steps up and down totalling probably 5km.

Taking a short boat ride before entering cave.

Inside the cave with multicolor lights ^_^

It was back to hotel in Shi Lin after that and we went through a part of road which is all stones and rocks. No doubt, it was a tiring first day.

2nd day, trip to the Stone Forest about 30mins away from the hotel. This is a UNESCO world heritage site which is also considered as the 'First Wonder of the World'. Researches by Chinese and overseas geologists have proved that the Stone Forest is over 270 million years old. At that time, this are is an ocean but later sea level subsided leaving massive stone formations.

Natural stones on the lake. Looking in awe.

Its real and very very old.

Main entrance to the Major Stone Forest. There is a minor Stone Forest too.

Sword-shaped stones.

For lunch, we were taken to a tourist centre know as 'Colours of Yunnan'. Performance were held during lunch.
Pretty girls on show!

It rained during afternoon. Our next stop is the Western Hills Forest Reserve, the road to the hill is narrow but the driver have 10+ years of skill, so no problem. At the foothill, we took a tour car to the mid hill and climbed another 1km on foot to reach the LongMen (Dragon Gate). Here we can see the vast Dianchi Lake. It was a cloudy day making the scenery less spectacular than it should be. Neverless, the view was breathtaking along with the cool breeze and falling rain drops.

The enourmous lake, which I thought was the sea!

To take this pic was the effort of 3 generations to build the way.

To Be Continued..
